Glories to Lord Shriman Lakshmi Narayana - Part 20

Shri Vishnu Stotram Part 1

So as I told that I was going to start a commentary and translation of Shri Vishnu Stotram in different posts, I came for the first. Shri Vishnu Stotram is actually a part of Shri Vishnu Purana and is recited by Mahabhkata Prahalaad !!!!!!!!! So without any more discussion Let us start the stotram !!!!!!!!!

Let us remember the holy name of Lord Ganesha and also of Lord Uma Maheshwara for their blessings with us,

Om Gan Ganapatye Namah !!!!!!!

Om Namah Shivaya !!!!!!

So here we start our stotram :-

Jay Shri Lakshmi Narayana !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

नमस्ते पुण्डरीकाक्ष नमस्ते पुरुषोत्तम ।
नमस्ते सर्वलोकात्मन्नमस्ते तिग्मचक्रिणे ॥१॥

Namastey Pundarikaaksha Namastey Purushottama,

Namastey Sarva Lokaatmannamastey tigmachakriney !!!!!!

All saluations to the great lord Pundarikaaksha, to Lord Purushottama, to the one who is Srava-loka aatman, to the tikshana chakradhaari !!!!!!!

Commentary :-

Here Mahabhakta Prahlaad says to Lord Vishnu as PundarikaakshaPurushottamaSrava-loka aatman and tikshana chakradhaari .

The word Pundarikaaksha means that the one who has eyes like lotus. Lord Vishnu is told as Kamal-Netra (lotus eyed) many times and every where. This name of Lord Vishnu is 100% saarthak (true) as his eyes are really lotus like and is so much beautiful that anyone can be attracted on it. The name not only says about his handsomeness but also justifies his jap tap and his message about bhakti he gives. This is very different thing that being Lord of Universe, he too does bhakti and saadhna. This is only for loka kalyaan, He has 2 times almost sacrificed his eyes for his bhakti and saadhna for loka kalyaan. This shows that he is really the one who constantly thinks about us and always does his job of preserver in the best way that perfectness also pray to him for its perfectness.

The Purushottama is the word which glorifies him the supreme lord as the best and perfect person. He is the most ideal example from whose su-charitra a person can learn the qualities of a perfect person. Though its impossible to fully become like him because all the qualities of that supreme can’t be taken in. After all we are just anshas of him supreme and he the parmatma.

Then comes the word Sarva-loka aatman, he is the aatma of every loka, let it be Swarga loka, Prithvi loka, Paatal loka, Satya loka, Vaikuntha loka or any, he is the supreme aatma of every loka. He resides in every loka in different way and is the soul of this countless great and ever expanding Universe.

Tikshana Chakradhaari word tells about his divine Sudarshana Chakra which is the sharpest and fastest (Tiksha) in the whole Universe. The Chakra whose warth cannot be even controlled by Bramhastra, you the great almighty lord Narayana, holds on your one finger.

All the words here glorifies Shri Hari as the supreme personality and the great preserver of Universe.

Next line will be posted soon and till then, learn about him and sing his divine glories,

Dhanyawaad (Thank you) !!!!!!

Om Namo Venkatesaaya !!!!!!!!

Glories to Lord Shri Lakshmi Narayana - Part 21

Shri Vishnu Stotram Part 2

Om Namo Narayanaya !!!!!!!

Again I am present with my commentary on Shri Vishnu Stotram which is from Shri Vishnu Purana. Its some what long but detailed explained, hope you all will love it. So now let us go to next verse of Shri Vishnu Stotram :-

नमो ब्रह्मण्यदेवाय गोब्राह्मणहिताय च ।
जगद्धिताय कृष्णाय गोविन्दाय नमो नमः ॥२॥

Namo Brahmanya devaaya Gau Brahmana Hitaayacha,

Jagaddhitaaya Krishnaaya Govindaaya namo Namah !!!!!

Salutations to the deva (god) who is Brahman himself, who is the well wisher of cattle and Brahmins,

Oh Lord who is the sun of the world, who is bluish black in color and who is protector of Vedas, all salutations to you.

Commentary :-

Here Mahabhakta Prahlaad, says Shriman Brahmanya deva, Gau Brahmana Hitaayacha, Jagaddhitaaya Krishnaaya Govindaaya. Now I am going to give a detail explanation.

The word Brahaman Devaa is a perfect term given to Shri Hari. Yes he is supreme Brahaman of Vedas. Many times in Vedas like in Rig Veda in Purusha Suktam, Shriman Narayana is glorified as supreme. Many times in other Suktas like Narayana Suktam in Yajur Veda and even in Shri Suktam of Rig Veda he is glorified and mentioned. And as Vedas being supreme authority, his supremacy cannot be challenged.

1st line from Purusha Suktam says :-

सहस्रशीर्षा पुरुषः सहस्राक्षः सहस्रपात् ।
स भूमिं विश्वतो वृत्वात्यतिष्ठद्दशाङुलम्

Sahasra-Shiirssaa Purussah Sahasra-Akssah Sahasra-Paat
Sa Bhuumim Vishvato Vrtva-Atya[i-Tisstthad-Dasha-Angulam

Now when we break the words we get :-

The Purusha who is Universal Being has Thousand Heads, Thousand Eyes and Thousand Feet (Thousand signifies innumerable functions of the Universal Being),
He envelops the World from all sides i.e. He pervades each part of the Creation, and extends beyond in the Ten Directions represented by Ten Fingers.

So the first line is enough to prove about Lord Vishnu’s supremacy. I will not go in detail otherwise it will become commentary on Purusha Suktam.

Secondly Mahabhakta Prahlaad says to Shriman that he is Gau Brahmana Hitaaya. Now this words simply means he is a well wisher and thinker about cattle and Brahmins. Now here what point to be noted ? The point to be noted here that what’s the significance of cattle and particularly cow and Brahmins. Here cattle is basically signifying the importance of the daily needs of a person. Cow is considered as mother because when a mother of a child stops giving her milk to the child, its Cow who is fulfilling the needs of that child. This gives an equal love of mother to the child which his/her mother gives. Now the word Brahmin doesn't mean the one who is Brahmin by birth. It basically signifies the learned men and women. Learned men and women means one who not only have bookish knowledge, but are best in manners, habits and behavior and have good characteristics. So in all he is care taker of all the basic needs of us without which we cant live even and is care taker of the learned people here so that Gyaan (knowledge) and Dharma will be prevailing the world.

Now Mahabhakta Prahlaad says Shriman as Jagaddhitaaya Krishnaaya Govindaaya. Jagaddhitaaya means the one who is the Sun of the World but here Jagad is referred to Universe. This word actually says that He is the supreme who is actually the Urja Kendra (power house) of the Universe as Sun signifies energy. Now how I am telling this ? You know a story from Shrimad Bhagwata Purana, where Indra mistaken himself as the supreme Lord. When Shriman tried to break his over proudness by stooping Vrindavan vaasi to offer him different offerings, he tried to destroy paawan dhaam Vrindavan which is the divine abode of the Lord. But Shri Hari taught him a good lesson by lifting up whole Go-Vardhan Parvat on his one tip of smallest finger of the right hand. After this incident, Indra realized his mistake and fall on the feets of he the supreme. Indra realized that he is not supreme, the power he have of doing rains on earth is given to him by the supreme who resides in his param dhaam Vaikuntha with our Shri Mata.

Now Mahabhakta Prahalaad says the supreme as Krishna and Govinda. Yes Lord is Krishna because he is Bluish Black in color but his radiance is even cannot match billions of Sun. Even also because Shri Bhagwaan came on earth by taking Shri Krishna avatar and did dharma sthaapna by doing the great war of Mahabharata in Dwaapar Yuga. Shri Bhagwaan come on this earth every Yuga. Now why does Shri Bhagwaan is said Govinda ? This because he is protector of Vedas which is his mouth spoken only. The story of Matsya Avatar of the Shri Bhagwaan from Shri Shri Vishnu Purana is known to everyone. How he killed Hayigrivaa and took Vedas and also took the form of Hayigrivaa and again gave Vedas to Lord Bramha who is supreme master of the Vedas. He then asked Manu and his wife along with Sapta Maharishis to follow the Vedas for again establishing the human civilization on earth after paralaya (destruction).

Hope you have liked this and have learn many things from it. Soon I will be present again with the commentary on next verse. Till then sing his and her glories and worship them who reside in divine Vaikuntha and Kailasha.

Thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!

Jay Lakshmi Narayana !!!!!!!!!!

Glories to Lord Shri Lakshmi Narayana - Part 22

Shri Vishnu Stotram Part -3

Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaaya !!!!!!!!

Let us now see the meaning of the next verses of Shri Vishnu Stotram which is from Shri Shri Vishnu Purana !!!!!!!!!

ब्रह्मत्वे सृजते विश्वं स्थितौ पालयते पुनः ।
रुद्ररूपाय कल्पान्ते नमस्तुभ्यं त्रिमूर्तये ॥३॥

Bramhatvey Srujatey Vishwam Sthiyatou paalayatey namaha,

Rudrarupaaya Kalpaantey Namastubhyam Trimurtaye !!!!!!

Oh Lord you are the one who becomes Bramha and creates Universe, and in your swaroop you preserve it,

By becoming Rudra (Shiva) you destroys, so I bow to the holy trinity !!!!!

Commentary :-

A very imp. part of Shri Vishnu Stotram we arrived. This is a particular line which encourages the philosophy of Adwaita. Here Maha bhakta Prahlaad says, to Shri Bhagwaan that all are you only. You do the work of creation by becoming Bramha. You yourself preserves the Universe and we all know our dear Shri Hari is the Lord of the Universe and preserves it and by becoming Rudra, he destroys it. So basically there is no bheda (difference) between them. Bramha, Vishnu and Mahesha are the same supreme and are the 3 roops (manifestations) of that supreme. No one is less superior to each other. Now how I am able to tell this ? There are thousands of proofs in Itihaasas (Ramayana and Mahabharata) and Puranas proclaiming the same. Vedas also say that the supreme Brahman can have infinite gunas and exist anywhere in any roop. So basically these three are the supreme most gunas of Brahman who is Narayana here and does its work. So basically Narayana is equal to Shiva and is equal to Bramha. Vishnu are one and the same entity. They are essentially one and the same. They are the names given to the different aspects of the all-pervading Supreme Parabrahman or the Absolute. ‘Sivasya hridayam vishnur-vishnoscha hridayam sivah—Vishnu is the heart of Shiva and likewise Shiva is the heart of Vishnu’. No further explanation needed here.

This was for today and will soon come with commentary on next verse, till then sing his and her glories who resides in Vaikuntha and Kailasha.

Thank you !!!!!!!!!

Jay Lakshmi Narayana !!!!!!!!

Temple Series - Part 11 (Dwaraka Tirumala)

 Hare Krishna!

Sri Venkateswara swamy is Srimannarayan himself. There are number of temples for him. Tirumala temple is the well-known temple of Sri Venkateswara swamy which is visited by thousands of devotees daily. There are many other famous temples other than Tirumala. One of them is “Dwaraka Tirumala”.

Let’s know about it:

Dwaraka Tirumala History:

A devotee of Vishnu named Dwaraka, did penance for Vishnu near Dwaraka Tirumala for some years. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Venkateswara appeared before him. Dwaraka felt very happy for seeing Venkateswara. Lord asked what boon shall I give you. Then, Dwaraka replied “Your lotus feet service is enough my Lord!!!”.

According to the wish of Dwaraka, Venkateswara appeared there in the form of statue.

There are some specialties in Dwaraka Tirumala. Let’s know some of them:

Normally, in most of the temples, Mulamurthi will be facing north or east side. But, here Venkateswara mulamurthy will be facing south. Because Dwaraka did penance facing North side. As Srinivasa appeared opposite to him, here he’ll be facing south.

There are 2 main idols (2 mulamurthys). It was said that there is a big anthill formed around the Sage Dwaraka. Lord appeared there only. So, 1 idol’s feet will be inside the anthill. As we all know that lotus feet of Sri Vishnu are worshiped a lot, all the sages thought “How to worship Vishnu without having darsan of his lotus feet’. Then, Lord said “Don’t worry! bring an idol of me from Tirumala”. They felt happy and brought a beautiful idol of Sri Venkateswara from Tirumala and kept it near the Mulamurthy. So, there are 2 main idols here.

In this temple, Brahmotsavams are done twice a year. Because as there are 2 main idols, brahmotsavams are also done twice. If any adhika maasam (extra month according to Telugu calendar) comes, that year Brahmostavams will be done thrice.

Abhishekam is never done to mulamurthy of Venkateswara. As there is an anthill near the mulamurthy, if abhishekam is done, all the ants are coming out of that. So, for this reason, abhishekam is never done to him.

Dwaraka Tirumala this name is formed with 2 words Dwaraka and Tirumala. As Venkateswara appeared for sage Dwaraka, it is called as Dwarka. And as one of the main idol of Venkateswara is brought from Tirumala, its called Tirumala. Totally, it’s called as Dwaraka Tirumala.

This place is also called as Chinna Tirupati. If anyone is unable to go to Tirumala then, they can go to Dwaraka Tirumala.

This temple is also very special for the devotees.

Visiting this temple is equal to visiting Tirumala Venkateswara swamy. People who are unable to visit Tirumala can do offerings to Venkateswara swamy here which is equal to offering at Tirumala.

Om Namo Venkatesaya !!!
