Hare Krishna!
Sri Venkateswara swamy is Srimannarayan himself. There are number of temples for him. Tirumala temple is the well-known temple of Sri Venkateswara swamy which is visited by thousands of devotees daily. There are many other famous temples other than Tirumala. One of them is “Dwaraka Tirumala”.
Let’s know about it:
Dwaraka Tirumala History:
A devotee of Vishnu named Dwaraka, did penance for Vishnu near Dwaraka Tirumala for some years. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Venkateswara appeared before him. Dwaraka felt very happy for seeing Venkateswara. Lord asked what boon shall I give you. Then, Dwaraka replied “Your lotus feet service is enough my Lord!!!”.
According to the wish of Dwaraka, Venkateswara appeared there in the form of statue.
There are some specialties in Dwaraka Tirumala. Let’s know some of them:
Normally, in most of the temples, Mulamurthi will be facing north or east side. But, here Venkateswara mulamurthy will be facing south. Because Dwaraka did penance facing North side. As Srinivasa appeared opposite to him, here he’ll be facing south.
There are 2 main idols (2 mulamurthys). It was said that there is a big anthill formed around the Sage Dwaraka. Lord appeared there only. So, 1 idol’s feet will be inside the anthill. As we all know that lotus feet of Sri Vishnu are worshiped a lot, all the sages thought “How to worship Vishnu without having darsan of his lotus feet’. Then, Lord said “Don’t worry! bring an idol of me from Tirumala”. They felt happy and brought a beautiful idol of Sri Venkateswara from Tirumala and kept it near the Mulamurthy. So, there are 2 main idols here.
In this temple, Brahmotsavams are done twice a year. Because as there are 2 main idols, brahmotsavams are also done twice. If any adhika maasam (extra month according to Telugu calendar) comes, that year Brahmostavams will be done thrice.
Abhishekam is never done to mulamurthy of Venkateswara. As there is an anthill near the mulamurthy, if abhishekam is done, all the ants are coming out of that. So, for this reason, abhishekam is never done to him.
Dwaraka Tirumala this name is formed with 2 words Dwaraka and Tirumala. As Venkateswara appeared for sage Dwaraka, it is called as Dwarka. And as one of the main idol of Venkateswara is brought from Tirumala, its called Tirumala. Totally, it’s called as Dwaraka Tirumala.
This place is also called as Chinna Tirupati. If anyone is unable to go to Tirumala then, they can go to Dwaraka Tirumala.
This temple is also very special for the devotees.
Visiting this temple is equal to visiting Tirumala Venkateswara swamy. People who are unable to visit Tirumala can do offerings to Venkateswara swamy here which is equal to offering at Tirumala.
Om Namo Venkatesaya !!!
