Shiva Shakti - Part 11

Why did Lord Shiva get married to Maa Parvati ?

As you have asked this question, the question itself identifies that your basics need to be clear. First of all :-

Who is Parvati Maa and what is her story :-

Maa Parvati is Adi Para Shakti as per Shaivism. Maa Adi Para Shakti is the divine mother from which whole universe is created. Half of her body was of Adi Para Shiva. Adi Para Shakti after her division into Maa Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati, she took birth as Maa Sati. Then maa Sati married to Lord Shiva going out of the will of her father Dakhsa Prajapati. Then after some years, Dakhsa kept a Yagyan actually to insult Lord Shiva, maa Sati being very disappointed she burnt herself in the yagyan.

Then she was incarcerated as Parvati maa and she was having too much affection for Lord Shiva. She use to always worship Lord Shiva. In his lifetime, Lord Vishnu realised her that he is her brother and need to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Because of the loss of Maa Sati, Lord Shiva use to cry very much and shout in the mourning. But this was releasing a high energy which was creating a great problem and to avoid this Lord Shiva went into a deep meditation. Maa Parvati need to break the meditation of Lord Shiva by offering him a great penance. She meditated a great and Lord Vishnu use to come and feed her with food and water. But he was observing that his sister (Maa Parvati) was slowly slowly becoming weak day by day. So he asked Indra Deva for his help. Indra Deva told him that his (Lord Vishnu) son Kamadeva would help in this situation. Kamadeva then went to Lord Shiva and attacked him with his Kama-astra but was failed and finally Lord Shiva burnt Kamadeva. But his meditation was broken and finally he saw Maa Parvati and his anger flowed into his tears and he again gave life to Kamadeva and made him immortal. Finally Lord Shiva was married to Maa Parvati which was the need of the Universe and finally celebrations were there.

So basically Maa Parvati married to Lord Shiva because they are incomplete without each other. A famous quote among Shaivas “Shakti ke bina Shiva bhi Shava hai”.

Edit : Here I have given just a summary of the story. That's why it can even look somewhat of less feelings. The real story is very long, full of feelings (Love, devotion, motivation, etc.)
