Different Names of Tirumala - Part 1

There are number of names for Sri Tirumala. Reference of my posts about different names of Sri Venkatadri is Sri Venkatachala Maahathmyam written by Tarigonda Vengamamba. Sri Venkateswara swamy directly listened this Sri Venkatachala Maahathmyam written by her after Ekantha Seva.

1 . Chinthamani

I believe all know about Chinthamani. This is a type of jewel which gives what we ask. If people ask anything, then, in the same way, this hill too bestows that. So, it’s called Chinthamani.

2 . Gnanadri

Gnaana= Knowledge, Adri= Hill; hill which bestows knowledge.

If any little knowledge person resides in Tirumala, he’ll be blessed with more knowledge. His knowledge increases day by day. So, this is also called as Gnanadri.

3 . Thirthadri

Thirth= Thirtham, Adri= Hill; a hill which have number of Thirthams.

There are number of thirthams in this hill which satisfy the desires of devotees. Some thirthams bestow knowledge, some devotion and some salvation.

And only in Sri Swamy Pushkarini it was said that there are 9 thirthams inside that. Swamy Pushkarini is also called as Saraswathi Thirtham. Some of the thirthams are Chakra Thirtham, Sankha thirtham, Sanaka Sanandana Thirtham, Dhruva Thirtham, etc.,
