Sri Malayappa Swamy (Sri Venkateswara swamy Utsava Murthy, Tirumala)

Malayappa swamy is the utsava murthy/utsava beram of Sri Venkateswara swamy, Tirumala. He’s swayambhu. No one carved his idol. Let’s know the story about him:

(Sri Malayappa swamy murthy, Maa Sridevi and Mata Bhudevi without any kavacham)

Before 14th century, all the utsavams which now are held to Malayappa swamy were done to Sri Ugra Srinivasa murthy (who is now called as Snapana Beram). Once, during Brahmotsavams, an accident was taken place. All were worried about that. Then Lord, through a devotee, announced “Utsavas shouldn’t be done only to his murthy without his consorts. Bring the utsavars of Sridevi Bhudevi sametha Sri Venkateswara swamy which were already there in Malayappa kona and which are swayambhu.” He’s no less than Mulamurthy of Sri Venkateswara swamy.

After listening to this, all went in search of Murthys in Malayappa kona and finally they found the murthy of Lord with Sridevi and Bhudevi. As the murthy of Sri Venkateswara was found in Malayappa kona, he is called as Malayappa swamy and he is the utsava murthy.

He'll be same as Sri Venkateswara Mulamurthy in posture with Sridevi maa on his right and Bhudevi on left side.

There are number of utsavams done to them. Let’s know some of the utsavas/sevas done to Malayappa swamy with his consorts.

• Srivari Kalyanotsavam: This is a nityothsav seva (which will be done daily to Sri Malayappa swamy with Sridevi and Bhudevi). It will start at 12:00PM and continues till 1 or one and half hour.

• Dolothsavam: This is also a nithyothsav seva which will be done to them daily after Srivari Kalyanotsavam.

• Arjitha Brahmothsavam: This is also a nithyothsav which will be held after Dolothsavam. Sri Venkateswara utsava murthy will give us darsan on Garuda, Hanumad and Sesha Vahans in this seva.

• Arjitha Vasanthothsavam: This is also a nithyotsav which will be done to them after Arjitha Brahmotsavam. Abhishekam with water, cow milk, curd, honey, coconut water, turmeric and alankaram with Chandanam & Tulasi Garlands will be done to Sri Malayappa swamy with Maa Sridevi and Maa Bhudevi.

• Sahasra Deepalankar seva: This is also a nityothsav which is paused for some days. This seva will be from 4:50 PM to 5:30 PM. Sri Malayappa with Sridevi and Bhudevi gives us darsan between 1,008 deepams in this seva.

• Punnami Garuda Seva: This seva will be done to Sri Malayappa swamy on every Pournami. Sri Malayappa swamy gives us darsan on Garuda vahan same as in Brahmotsavams.

• Sahasra Kalasabhishekam: This seva is held to Sri Bhoga Srinivasamurthy, Sri Vishwaksena and Sridevi, Bhudevi sametha Sri Malayappa swamy on every Wednesdays.

• Brahmotsavam: Brahmotsavams will be held in every Kanya masam for 9 days. If any adhika masam comes, then in that month too Brahmotsavams will be conducted

• Padmavathi Parinayotsavalu, Srivari Jyeshtabhishekam, Srivari Varshika Vasanthothsavalu, Parveta utsavam, Pushpayagam, are some other utsavas done to Sridevi Bhudevi sametha Sri Malayappa swamy. These all are Varshika utsavas (yearly).
